TORN
I have often thought about reliving a distant time in history. If I could go back to any point, what would I want to see and experience?
For awhile, I thought my answer would be creation-to be able to witness God speaking what we now live into existence. Then I visited the Creation Museum in Ohio and watched a 4k presentation of creation and it was completely overwhelming. I am not sure I could actually handle the grandeur of it all.
Although I’m sure my answer may vary from day to day or in different seasons of life, my current answer to what part of history I’d love to go back and witness is the veil being torn in two.
In case you’re not sure what I’m talking about, I’ll give you the JRV (Janice Rigel version).
Back in biblical times, there was a place called the temple. This is where people went to offer sacrifices for many things (sin, peace, etc.). Within the temple was a place called “the holy of holies”. This was the most sacred space in the temple, where God’s presence dwelt. Only once a year was someone (the high priest) permitted to enter this place. Much precaution and preparation took place prior to entrance. Check out Exodus 28 for more deets!
When Jesus sacrificed His life at the cross, the Bible says that He spoke the words “it is finished” and breathed His last breath. At that time, the earth shook and the veil that previously kept people out of and away from God’s presence in the holy of holies was torn in two. Keep in mind this veil was no small sheet-it was MASSIVE! The tearing of it was completely supernatural and showed that God never wanted His presence to be kept from His people.
This is the moment in history I want to witness. This is what I want to see with my own eyes and experience. This is the point that changes everything and gives us the liberty as believers to access His presence.
Hebrews 10:19-22 says “By His death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him.”
