HIS ARE BETTER

“You wait in darkness for answers that you can't see, you know what you deserve and you're wondering why your life is not what you thought it should be” - Keep Breathing by Kerrie Roberts

Life often doesn’t look like we imagine it will. I am a master artist at painting a picture of what I think my life should and will look like, and rarely does it turn out the way I imagine. I have found in the moments, and sometimes seasons, of frustration, that I have to continually remind my heart that God’s plans for my life are only ever good (Jeremiah 29:11) and that He withholds no good thing from me (Psalm 84:11).

One lighthearted example, completely microscopic compared to the myriad of other disappointing moments I’ve endured, happened on an Instagram live video. I was so excited to tune in because my favorite lady in ministry, Lisa Harper, was giving away a virtual chips and queso date during the live to someone who had pre-ordered her newest devotional. I set an alarm in my calendar to ensure that I didn’t miss it. My fleshly hope was that no one would tune in and that I would be her only option to pick from. That heinous-hearted hope was dashed quickly as people piled on the live chat by the droves. As I waited still in hopeful expectation to be chosen, the air squeaked out of my proverbial balloon when another person’s name was announced.

Although completely insignificant in light of eternity, my momentary letdown still mattered.

Disappointment, whether massive or miniscule, stings deeply and the only salve for the wounds it inflicts is the truth found within the pages of God’s Word. His promises are always “yes” and “amen”, and we need to know what those promises are so that in times of disappointment, we can continually remind our hearts that He is forever faithful and always for us. As for the chips & queso date that I so badly wanted, I choose to trust that God knew who needed it most and I’m okay that it wasn’t me.

Sometimes things have a way of working out for reasons we may never know. What I do know, however, is that His plans for our lives are only ever good and when things don’t look like we imagined they would, we can confidently know that His plans are always better.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts”

-Isaiah 55:9 NKJV
